After trying out the role, she was chosen as the leading lady in Anne of Green Gables. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. In the last 20 years, her roles on TV and the big screen have varied. The character of Rita from the award winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel was the character Rita in The Handmaid's Tale, a series that was filmed over ten years ago.
